After defeating Switzerland, the Polish women’s team lost to Ukraine on Friday in the BJK Cup qualifying tournament in Radom. Beskidzki Klub Tenisowy Advantage Bielsko-Biała representatives Maja Chwalińska and Katarzyna Kawa played singles, while Maja partnered Martyna Kubka in doubles.
The first singles match at the Radom Sports Centre went Ukraine’s way as WTA No. 25 Marta Kostyuk defeated Katarzyna Kawa 6:1, 6:2.
In Friday’s second singles match, WTA No. 121 Maja Chwalińska fought incredibly hard but lost 6:7 (4:7), 3:6 to world No. 25 Elina Svitolina. Chwalińska moved into the No. 1 singles position in place of Poland’s team leader Magda Linette, who was unable to play because of worsening illness symptoms.
The tie concluded with the doubles match. As on Thursday against Switzerland, Chwalińska and Martyna Kubka took to the court. They faced the very strong twin-sister pairing of Lyudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok and lost in two tie-breaks, 6:7 (1-7), 6:7 (5-7).
