Linda Klimovicova came close to winning the ITF W100 tournament in Les Franqueses del Valles, Spain. In the final, she lost 5:7/6:7 (4-7) to Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja.
The 21-year-old was seeded sixth in the event, while her final opponent was the top seed. On Sunday, the two produced an entertaining contest in the Catalan town, spending two hours and seven minutes on court.
In the first round of the USD 100,000 event, Linda comfortably defeated Serbia’s Mia Ristic 6:4/6:1. The Pole had an even easier second round, dropping just one game – in the second set – against Germany’s Gina Dittmann. In the quarter-final, she lost a set for the first time that week before eliminating third-seeded Italian Lucrezia Stefanini 6:4/2:6/6:3.
She played another three-set match for a place in the final and again emerged victorious, defeating seventh-seeded Serbian Lola Radivojević 3:6/7:6/6:2.
In the final, Linda lost to Semenistaja in two closely contested sets.
From Spain, Klimovicova will travel to Italy for the WTA 125 event in Rovereto, followed by a planned appearance at the ITF W75 in Glasgow. From 14–16 November, we will then see her at Arena Gorzów, where Poland will face New Zealand and Romania in the Billie Jean King Cup Group B qualifying tournament.
