BKT Advantage Bielsko-Biała representative Maja Chwalińska won the ITF Tennis W75 tournament in Brescia alongside Austria’s Sinja Kraus. In singles, Maja reached the quarter-finals.
In Saturday’s title match, the Polish-Austrian duo defeated Czech Gabriela Knutson and Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja 6:0/6:3.
However, Chwalińska and Kraus had no easy route to the final. In the first round, they eliminated fourth seeds Alexandra Osborne of Australia and Ekaterina Yashina 7:5/6:7 (7-9)/10-7. In the quarter-final, they beat Italians Angelica Raggi and Viola Turini 6:3/6:4, before defeating Spain’s Angela Fita Boluda and Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon 2:6/6:1/10-7 in the next match.
The Bielsko-Biała player’s singles run ended in the quarter-final, where she lost 4:6/3:6 to American Caty McNally, one of the qualifiers.
Earlier, the second-seeded Pole defeated Italian wild card Samira de Stefano 6:3, 6:2, then beat Ukraine’s Katarina Zavatska, winner of the previous two editions of the event, 4:6/6:1/6:0 in the round of 16.
Chwalińska travelled directly to Brescia from Paris after being eliminated in the second round of qualifying for the Grand Slam Roland Garros. She will remain in Italy, where she plans to compete in two WTA 125 tournaments, in Bari and Grado.
