Early this afternoon, Maja Chwalińska secured her place in the main draw of the prestigious Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament in Paris.
Qualifying on the clay courts began on Monday and featured as many as three players representing BKT Advantage Bielsko-Biała. After Linda Klimovicova and Katarzyna Kawa were eliminated, hopes of success rested on Chwalińska, the highest-seeded of the trio in qualifying, who lives and trains in Bielsko-Biała.
In the first round, Chwalińska comfortably defeated Alice Rame (WTA No. 197) 6:0/6:3, and a day later easily beat another home player, Carole Monnet (WTA No. 195), 6:0/6:1. Today’s match against Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands was more demanding, but after a hard-fought battle the Pole won 7:6 (4)/7:5.
