Maja Chwalińska continues her strong performances at the WTA 125 clay-court tournaments in Antalya. As she did a week earlier, our player reached the doubles final, although this time she was unable to claim the title. On Monday, she will move close to the Top 100 in the WTA doubles rankings.
As in the previous week, Maja formed a successful doubles partnership at the Turkish resort with Czech Anastasia Detiuc. This time, however, after extending their winning streak to seven matches, they narrowly lost Saturday’s final to Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle and Switzerland’s Simona Waltert 6:3, 5:7, 3-10. In the second set, they failed to serve out the match at 5:4 and lost the next three games.
Earlier, in the very first round, they faced Czechs Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch, whom they had defeated in the final a week earlier. Once again they came out on top, winning 6:4, 6:4.
In the quarter-final, they eliminated top seeds Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers of Spain and Angelica Moratelli of Italy 6:4, 6:4, before defeating India’s Prarthana Thombare and China’s Wushuang Zheng 6:1, 6:4 in the semi-final.
The latest WTA rankings will be published next Monday after a two-week break. The Bielsko-Biała player is expected to climb 34 places to a career-high No. 105 in doubles. She will also achieve a singles personal best at No. 121.
At the first WTA 125 tournament in Antalya, Chwalińska reached the singles semi-final; this time she was eliminated in the first round, losing 5:7, 4:6 to third seed Kamilla Rakhimova. She will remain in Turkey next week for a third consecutive tournament of the same category.
From 10–12 April, Maja will represent Poland in the Billie Jean King Cup Group E qualifying tournament, facing Switzerland and Ukraine on the clay court at the Radom Sports Centre. The squad originally announced in mid-March also includes Magdalena Fręch (KS Górnik Bytom), Magda Linette (AZS Poznań) and Maja’s club teammate Katarzyna Kawa.
