BKT Advantage Bielsko-Biała representative Maja Chwalińska claimed her first title of the season and the ninth of her career by winning Sunday’s WTA 125 clay-court tournament in Montreux.
It is the 23-year-old Bielsko-Biała player’s second WTA 125 title. Her first triumph at this level came in December in Florianópolis, where she also won the doubles title with Brazilian Laura Pigossi. One week earlier, she had also won the doubles at the WTA 125 event in Buenos Aires together with club teammate Katarzyna Kawa.
Maja’s Sunday final in Montreux lasted one hour and 20 minutes and was a fairly one-sided contest dominated by the Pole. She defeated fifth-seeded Latvian Darja Semenistaja 6:1/6:2.
Chwalińska caused a major upset in the opening round, eliminating top-seeded Swiss Jil Teichmann, currently No. 87 in the WTA rankings, 0:6/6:4/6:1.
